The way in which vintage clothing is worn will, of course, differ from person to person. However, if you are new to the world of vintage clothing, you would do well to read the tips that we are going to share with you on this page!
Ease yourself in
You do not want to be jumping into crazy outfits right away. Instead, opt for small accessories that you can start to blend into your modern clothing.
Many people out there who love vintage clothing would probably do well starting with hats, scarves, or just basic pieces of jewelry. You don’t need much. Even the smallest piece of vintage clothing can really help to spice up your overall look.
Don’t overdo it
Unless you are heading to a re-enactment, you do not want to coat yourself head-to-toe in vintage clothing. That is pointless. The purpose of purchasing vintage clothing is so that you are able to easily blend it into modern clothing. Many people will take a simple piece, maybe a shirt, maybe a pair of jeans, and look to shape it and really make it pop out by surrounding it with modern clothing. This way you will have a decent and unique look.
Try new items
Don’t turn your nose up at vintage clothing! Do not be afraid to experiment with a style of clothing that you have never worn before. You never know, you may just end up liking it. I believe that one of the real joys of wearing vintage clothing is the fact that you can experiment and come up with looks that you would not even give a quick look at if you were in a modern clothing store.
Choose something that is comfortable
Obviously, you don’t want to be too extravagant with what you wear. In my opinion, if you wish to wear vintage clothing properly, you should try and stick close to something that you would normally wear. Part of the joy of wearing vintage clothing is the fact that you can select something which ‘stands out’, but not too much. For example; whilst you may think a bright stained t-shirt from the 1960s looks brilliant, it is going to be difficult to incorporate it into your modern clothing style. You are also going to stick out like a sore thumb. Basically, opt for something that you feel you will reasonably look good in. You can take a few detours from your standard style, but do not do it too much. Remember; the vast majority of people out there will only feel comfortable when they are wearing very specific clothing that matches their personality. You want this. You want something that shows who you are as a person. If you can do that, you are going to look absolutely great.
Remember, you can wear your vintage clothing however you like. We feel as though the tips on this page are more than a decent enough start for you, however.
